Four Indonesian hospitals, including Siloam Hospitals Group, participated in the International Health Tourism and Services Expo in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 7–9 May 2026. The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dhaka (KBRI Dhaka) supported and facilitated this participation.
The visit included a series of meetings and a Business Gathering and Networking Session, culminating in a cooperation agreement signed between Siloam Hospitals Group and GD Assist Bangladesh on 8 May 2026.
Indonesian Delegation
The Indonesian delegation consisted of representatives from:
- Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Referral Hospital (RSCM)
- Harapan Kita National Cardiovascular Center
- Dharmais National Cancer Hospital
- Siloam Hospitals Group
KBRI Dhaka facilitated the participation as part of Indonesia’s economic diplomacy in the health sector. This effort aims to showcase Indonesia’s healthcare services and strengthen bilateral cooperation, building on an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on health between Indonesia and Bangladesh.
During the Business Gathering and Networking Session on 7 May, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bangladesh, Listyowati, stated the event focused on “building bridges and strengthening partnerships between the two countries.”
Ambassador Listyowati further noted that the visit could “encourage stronger cooperation between healthcare institutions and hospitals of both countries, including through capacity building, exchange of expertise, experiences and best practices in healthcare services, exchange of delegation visits, and training for healthcare professionals. This activity also serves as a platform to expand cooperation networks and open concrete collaboration opportunities in medical services, health tourism, and healthcare human resource development.”
The Ambassador and the Indonesian hospital representatives also conducted a courtesy meeting with the Secretary of the Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh. Discussions covered potential avenues for strengthening bilateral health cooperation, including the implementation of concrete programmes.
Facility Visits in Bangladesh
The Indonesian hospital delegation also conducted institutional visits to several healthcare facilities in Bangladesh:
- United Hospital
- National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases
- Bangladesh Specialized Hospital
- National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital
Siloam Hospitals Group Agreement
A key outcome was the signing of a cooperation agreement between Siloam Hospitals Group and GD Assist Bangladesh on 8 May 2026. This collaboration seeks to encourage patients from Bangladesh, a country with a population of more than 170 million, to consider Indonesia as a healthcare destination in the region.
HTN Analysis
Indonesia is making a direct, government-backed push into the Bangladeshi outbound medical travel market. The agreement between Siloam Hospitals Group and GD Assist Bangladesh creates a specific commercial channel targeting a patient population of over 170 million. This activity goes beyond general diplomatic statements, translating intent into a named commercial partnership.
While the Indonesian government highlights existing bilateral MoUs, the practical impact will depend on the commercial specifics of this new agreement and subsequent deals. The source does not detail the scope of services, patient volume targets, or financial arrangements of the Siloam-GD Assist partnership.
What to watch
- Patient referral volumes from GD Assist to Siloam Hospitals in 2026 and 2027.
- Whether the other Indonesian hospitals present in Dhaka (RSCM, Harapan Kita, Dharmais) announce similar commercial agreements with Bangladeshi facilitators.
- Any concrete programmes or policy changes resulting from the Indonesian delegation’s meeting with Bangladesh’s Health Services Division.
